Heard in 2012 (5): Beach House’s ‘Wild’ (2012)

This is one of the best bands going around. A slippery, sultry singer. Pretty, punchy guitar work. Steady, strong drumming. Otherworldly sounds for songs about worldly things.

I recently heard Beach House perform. The ringing guitar notes over the opening of ‘Wild’ seemed to break the bounds of Enmore Theatre. Crisp and clear, the sound evoked some unseen element of things clearly seen, a reality just out of reach. Whatever that reality is, it is a comforting one. The chords washed over the room like a gentle ocean tide, the high pitched wail sounding like some bird above our heads.

I really have no idea what the song is about, and I haven’t tried to find out. It just feels right.
